rom a swimming pool high above the Med, you can just make out a tiny
speedboat tracing circles of white in the blue of the bay. The mountainous
coast looks mythic, like a hologram projected from antiquity. After two days
on Turkey’s Bozburun Peninsula, a 45km sliver of precipitous rock and pine,
we really ought to be exercising more than our eyes – left to right to left
– but the view has my other half and me pinned like butterflies to a board.
Only our arms move – to raise the rosé.

Just 48 hours here, and already it’s obvious: Bozburun, in the resin-scented
southwest of the land, is a blueprint for timeless summer getaways. In the
lazy course of a week the full picture will develop: we’re in a distillation
of a bygone Med, the kind glimpsed in Technicolor movies starring Sophia
