Free water-conservation sessions this month
During the month of September, Golden Love will be teaching free 30-minute sessions on how to create a water-neutral garden.
The sessions, which will provide resources aimed at helping gardeners create their own water-neutral garden, will be held at individual homes in the Santa Cruz area. Call 471-9100 for details.
Annieglass to host trunk show today, Saturday
Ann Morhauser of Annieglass will host Bay Area artist Philippa Roberts for a trunk show at the Annieglass store in downtown Santa Cruz today and Saturday. Back by popular demand, Roberts will visit the store for First Friday, 5 to 8 p.m. today, and 1-4 p.m. Saturday.

Open house Sunday at botanical college
A free open house is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the College of Botanical Healing Arts, 1821 17th Ave., Santa Cruz. Attendees can sample lavender-infused treats, observe lavender distillation demonstrations, talk with teachers and students, and learn about essential oils and upcoming classes at the school.

Learn succulent orb, wreath-making at DIG
DIG will host a workshop on creating succulent orbs and wreaths this
Saturday. Those who attend the two-hour event can choose to make a 6-inch orb or a 10-inch wreath to cover with a variety of colorful, drought-tolerant succulents.

Reskilling Expo Sept. 16 at downtown museum
The fall Reskilling Expo will be 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art amp; History at the McPherson Center. The event, which will benefit TimeBank Santa Cruz, will include more than 25 workshops about everything from herbs for energy and immunity and how to make beeswax candles to methods of compost. Details on TimeBank Santa Cruz will also be available.

The Gardeners Club welcomes local author
The Gardeners Club will host local author Zachiah Murray 7 p.m. Thursday at the Aptos Grange, 2555 Mar Vista Drive. Murray will discuss her book, “Mindfulness in The Garden: Zen Tools for Digging in the Dirt.”

Love Apple joins roster of National Heirloom Expo
Love Apple Farms will join Demeter Inc. Sept. 11-13 at the National Heirloom Exposition in Santa Rosa. Demeter, a nonprofit aimed at enabling people to farm successfully through biodynamic practices and principles, will host a community made up of biodynamic practitioners including wineries, artisans and farming suppliers.
Love Apple Farms co-owner Cynthia Sandberg will host a number of classes throughout the expo, including Biodynamic Basics for Farm and Garden, Mysteries of Heirloom Tomatoes, and Integrating Animals into Your Garden. For details, visit www.theheirloomexpo.com.
Local Garden Exchange to meet Sept. 22
The September Local Garden Exchange will be 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at the Soquel Avenue Park and Ride commuter lot off Paul Sweet Road and Soquel Avenue. Attendees can bring their extra plants, cuttings, seeds and divisions to exchange with friends and neighbors. They are encouraged to bring any extra 1-gallon plastic containers to share.
