France doesn't want our Bundy
Backpackers Anais Gimard and Julie Guerinet were disappointed French customs rules prohibited them from sending rum home.
A SPIRITED tour of the Bundaberg Distilling Company ended in confusion this week when two French travellers were told they would be unable to post their alcoholic souvenir home.
Anais Gimard, 23, and Julie Guerinet, 24, were told the Bundaberg Rum liqueur they had just bought was unfit to send via post.
The two women have been living in Bundaberg for the past three months picking fruit and vegetables.
Miss Gimard said recent rain had reduced the amount of seasonal work available and they had taken a tour of the distillery to stay out of the weather.
But after excitedly making their purchase, they were told it was forbidden to send booze to France.
An Australia Post spokesman said as a prohibited item, alcohol could be confiscated by French customs.
“It would be a risk to send the spirits. Firstly the bottle may break in the post and second, as a flammable liquid is not allowed to enter France,” he said.
The women said they now intended to enjoy the alcohol themselves.
